Ecuador is the top expat destination in 2014
Ecuador is the most popular destination amongst expatriates of all nationalities according to a survey conducted by InterNations and completed by almost 14.000 expats.
The survey covered all the bases including basic facts about relocating, daily life, demographics and personal satisfaction with all aspects of living abroad. Luxembourg came second and Mexico third, while Greece, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait were at the bottom of the list.
The results show that there is a high percentage of retirees living in Ecuador (39%) with the average age of expats being just over 52, while the global average is just under 40. Ecuador scored high due to the ease of making friends and the low cost of living with 85% of expats being satisfied with their financial situation and 91% being satisfied with the cost of housing.
Ecuador also came first place for personal happiness. Almost half of expats in Ecuador plan to stay there possibly forever (42%). Interestingly expats in Ecuador are amongst the most likely to have local friends (39%) and 51% are in a relationship with a local resident.
