Casa de los Frutales
Located next to Cuenca’s music conservatory and only eight blocks from the main square (Parque Calderón) Casa de los Frutales is a rehabilitation project designed by Carlos Espinoza from Surreal Estudio in Cuenca Ecuador for the property developer ISAM.
The original building was built in the 1960s in the modern style. The project has rehabilitated the original construction and added modern elements to create nine apartments which make the most of the spectacular views from their balconies and terraces.
The renovation has maintained the existing green spaces and has managed to save some of the different species of traditional fruit trees that can be seen from the apartments to create a tranquil atmosphere.
The project faces two streets, to the front and to the back. The main entrance is via a cul-de-sac and there is an underground parking area for ten cars. All of the finishings, light fixtures etc. are chosen for their superior quality and are functional, aesthetic and socially responsible.
